Supporting the fight against opioid misuse

Opiod use disorder (OUD) is a complex and highly personal issue. And with our Guardian Angel Program (GAP), we’re committed to helping students covered ty Aetna Student HealthSM fight the battle.

What is the Guardian Angel Program?

What is the Guardian Angel Program?

We support individuals who have overdosed through the Guardian Angel Program, connecting them with the treatment and resources they need to recover.

We proactively reach out to offer support when they need it most, rather than waiting for them to initiate treatment or recovery. This approach helps them reduce the risk of another overdose.

How it works

How it works

Using claims data, we identify students covered by Aetna Student Health who’ve recently experienced an overdose. Then, a specially trained GAP clinician reaches out to them to offer support.

The clinician will:

  • Assess the individual's mental and physical well-being
  • Direct them to in-network resources and providers
  • Provide information on naloxone and other harm-reduction strategies
  • Collaborate with case management to monitor care and follow up as needed
